Find answers about setup, Downloads access, file organization, undo, and Vortex Pro.

Getting Started

How do I get started with Vortex?

After installing Vortex from the App Store, launch it and Vortex will appear in your menu bar. Click the icon to open the Vortex panel and follow the on-screen prompts to grant Downloads folder access.

Downloads Permission

How do I grant access to Downloads?

Vortex requests access through the standard macOS permission dialog. When prompted, click Allow. Vortex only monitors files in your Downloads folder, and only after you explicitly grant permission.

If you denied permission by mistake, re-enable it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Files and Folders.

Organizing Files

Where does Vortex organize files?

By default, Vortex sorts files into subfolders inside ~/Downloads/Vortex — Images, Documents, Videos, Archives, Installers, and Audio. You can change the organization root in Vortex Settings.

How do I organize a file immediately?

Open the Vortex panel, hover over any file to reveal action buttons, then click Organize. You can also select multiple files and use the bulk organize action.

Archive and Undo

How do I undo a recent move?

Vortex keeps an Archive timeline of recent moves. Use the global Undo button at the top of the panel to reverse the last move, or open the Archive view, find the file, and use the per-item undo action to restore it to its original location.

Vortex Pro

What is Vortex Pro?

Vortex Pro unlocks advanced automation rules, extended archive history, and additional customization options. It is available as a one-time purchase or subscription through the Mac App Store.

Restore Purchases

How do I restore Vortex Pro?

Open Vortex, go to the purchase or settings screen, and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you are signed in with the Apple ID used for the original purchase.

Troubleshooting

Does Vortex upload my files?

No. File organization runs entirely on your Mac. Vortex does not upload file contents to any DANSHARI server or third-party service.

Vortex does not appear in my menu bar.

Make sure Vortex is running — open it from your Applications folder. If your menu bar is crowded, some icons may be hidden. Try ⌘-dragging icons to create space, or check System Settings for menu bar management options.
